SLJ I got for a couple of years, but didn't find it particularly worthwhile.
It was fun to browse, but I seldom have time just for browsing, and I didn't
find the reviews very useful. I only get Booklist and now Library Sparks. I
find Booklist indispensable for ordering, and trust it more than any other for
recommendations. It's kind of expensive though, and if you can, go in with
another librarian.
Library Sparks is an activities magazine put out by Upstart, that is useful
to some extent for ideas, especially unit/themes, for bulletin boards, and for
the occasional handout. Frankly, although I will continue to get it, I get
more out of good old Mailbox...not "Bookbag" which is a shame; I too, found it
not useful for my situation. Our school gets Mailbox for Kindergarten, Primary
and Intermediate, and I use them all.
