Ouch! This one is a tough one! Did anyone at the National Library Services
division of the Library of Congress think about this when they thought of
the idea back in the late 1990's?(obviously not...I wonder if a blind person
was on the decision-making team)?

The mix-up of music CD's, computer CD's and the (eventual) descriptive
"video" DVD will make life SO frustrating!

It's amazing that we've come so far with technology that we now find
visually impaired and blind individuals working alongside their sighted
peers....now we've placed them in the same "technological turmoil" WITH
their sighted peers!! (What do I HAVE? How do I use IT? Can anyone
help???)

I asked my husband (who is visually impaired--and teaches blind / VI
students) about this new problem.....his comment, " I guess we're going to
have to be more organized!!!" *frown*

My only suggestion would be to contact the Library of Congress or Recordings
for the Blind to see what THEY are doing to distinguish these materials from
one another? Are they marking the disks and if not, why?? How can they
brainstorm to solve this problem?

It will probably take a blind 14-year old "techno-geek" to figure this one
out....I had a blind student (techno-geek) fix my library computer (at OSB)
once when no one else in the technology lab knew what was wrong. It was
amazing!

This is a great mystery / challenge! Any ideas from others???
