LM_NET Archive

One of the reasons why I post to the entire list AND to an individual is not
because I expect a "hit" from that individual or that I do not trust them to
provide one for everyone later, but rather so that I (or others) can locate
that same information later in the archives.

If information is sent directly to an individual and a hit is never offered
or if the answer is never posted correctly to the list, then there is no
archival information from which to draw from later. How many times have we
seen questions asked from individuals because they have searched the
archives first, found a question but did not locate an answer? The reason
is probably because the answers went directly to the individual and not to
the list.

If we want to help solve some of our continual questioning sessions with
directives to the archives, we must also post the answers to the list (with
or without a HIT) in order to provide future librarians with the answers.

(And Mary Ludwick thought that only SHE had a pet peeve!) ;)

Just my thoughts.
