Maureen and all: I learned in a semester cataloging course to always give the title of responsibility to the one found on the title page. And it bothers me, too, to shelve classic works all over the place according to the various adapted by or abridged versions. I like easy access, not just on OPAC, but physically on the shelf as well. I also, learned that I can do anything reasonable within my own library. So I came up with this - Say Shmoe adapts a Dickens, then FIC DIC SCH (Fiction, Dickens, Schmoe). It works for me and in the elementary school, the kids don't care. I haven't had any complaints from teachers either. Actually, they don't know any better. OPAC tells them where to go and they retrieve. I love my job!
