I'd agree with Chris and Gary. MLA (6th) says that if URL is long and prone to error, to cite the site's search page. The rest of the information provided will allow it to be brought up (Section 5.9.1). That would also help with database driven sites and sites that undergo a revision of the site. The ALA site would be an example for both long URLs or revised site instances. And the other piece is that subscription databases are cited differently than a professional, organization, or personal page. You wouldn't stick a tinyurl in a cite for Ebsco, Gale, etc. Robert Eiffert, Librarian Pacific Middle School Evergreen SD 114 Vancouver WA beiffert at egreen.wednet.edu pac.egreen.wednet.edu/library beiffert at comcast.net Chris Evans <cevans@CUSD220.LAKE.K12.IL.US>: > Hi... > This may sound like a ridiculous question, but here goes! > > Can tiny URLs be used for bibliographical citings? > A student asked me this question.... and all though my instincts were > to = say it wasn't appropriate, I really couldn't give a definite > answer as to = > why it wouldn't be appropriate.
