Hi, Congrads on your new job!
You might think about focusing on your favorite books or authors---read some of
them aloud to your classes. This could be a way for them to get to know you. Or you
could bring some photos of yourself -- for a bulletin board about yourself.

See if your local public library has a summer reading program which you could
promote with your students. Maybe raising interest in summer reading---you could
plan your own promotion----read a certain number of books and participate in a
drawing for prizes when school starts.

You might find some brochures about things in your city over the
summer---preferably free or low cost to talk to your students about. On the order
of "Knowing about your community".

You might talk about the changing seasons. Bring out some of your nonfiction books
on plants & flowers, weather, rain, etc. Activities for the summer, etc.

With your older students you could talk about books which have been made into
movies---perhaps they could read the book now & watch the video over the
summer---and report back when school starts about which they liked better. Another
promotion---or idea for a bulletin board.

With so little time left before school is out, you may be limited on actual
reference/library skills you can teach. Check with the language and social studies
teachers to see about upcoming projects or topics they are covering. You could pull
materials for them or have a bulletin board to go along.

Good luck.
