Today, as I busily helped an ESE class check out new library books, a first
grade teacher sauntered up to me.
"I need a TV and a VCR," she declared.
  "Yours isn't working?" I inquired.
  "No," she responded.
I told her it would be difficult to locate another TV for her at the moment
but that I would put in a repair order for her. But of course, I visited her
room to check out the situation before making any further moves.
I pulled the large cart that the TV and VCR sat on away from the wall so I
could see behind it. Guess what I saw? The plug on the floor, unplugged, of
course. The cable disconnected. The cable that connects the TV to the VCR
lay on the floor as well.
"Mrs. ______," I said, "did you unplug this equipment?"
"No ma'am," she responded. "It was like that after I got back from spring
break [three days ago]."
I reattached the cables, plugged the equipment in, changed the batteries
in her remote, and miracle of miracles, it all worked.
"You're all set," I informed her.
I thought of Jack Nicholson with his water pistol that looked just like a
real gun as I left her room.
