We use those agendas for check-out. I put their barcode on the inside
cover. It has been great. 90% of the kids keep up with them. Of
course some cut out the barcode and keep it in their wallet. (I really
don't care.)
But, the agendas have been very useful.

I can honestly say I have tried EVERYTHING for lunches in the LMC.
Tickets, special LMC lunchtime passes, daily passes with the date on
them created in a Word table, teacher passes, stamps on the hand etc.
I
have done it all with mediocre success. I haven't been overly
impressed
with any of it. Kids would still sneak in and some teachers would send
too many kids. It has been a massive pain that I just endure to give
kids access. However this year I saw the light! We started using
student planners and each student is required to have one. Even kids
that might not be able to afford one are given a planner. You know the
kind, those Premier Student Planners. We use them for nearly
everything.

Sometime in November the staff was discussing a lack of support from
all the teachers for the planners. It was then that I decided we'd use
the planner as the LMC lunch pass. WOW! Huge difference. No muss, no
fuss. They show their planner when entering the LMC each and every
day.
We specifically check the front part for their name and then they are
set. How liberating! I think the kids have helped reinforce their use
with the teachers. Plus it has brought a whole bunch of other kids
into
the LMC who perhaps couldn't get one of the other passes.

I marveled the other day when I saw about a 20 kids in one area of the
LMC reading and another group studying, about 5 on computers. What a
great vibe. Lunch in the LMC has been, I dare-say, a joy! Even my
assistant mentioned it. Now that's really something! We get anywhere
from 20-40 kids in the LMC at lunch so this little change made a huge
difference.

Ask kids for their input. Make it easy and let it reinforce good
interactions with kids.

Have fun.
