I think it's important to add that I am in an elementary school. Most of the time when a book is lost or late it is the parent's fault, not the student's. Yes, the kids SHOULD be keeping track of the books, but ultimately it's the parents who are teaching what's going on at home. In most of the responses I've seen the high schools are charging fines and I think that's appropriate.
