Well, Terry won't be in New Orleans very long...he's
heading to his sister's in Baton Rouge tomorrow. I
just got off the phone with him and he wanted me to
post to all his LM_NET friends that his place is dry
and secure for now but that the infrastructure of New
Orleans is disintegrating rapidly and he is getting
out while he can. Looting, the point-blank shooting of
a policeman, prisoners in chains on the interstate
because of flooded prisons, high heat with air
conditioners and fans useless--the quality of life
there is too low, martial law seems like a drastic
step but is crucial.

Terry has no water or power and estimates are that it
could easily be two months before utilities are
restored. There may be a mandatory evacuation, but he
is not waiting for that to leave! The French Quarter
where he lives is the highest point in the city, but
with the breaking of the second levee, that could not
matter soon. He is putting art work up high,
sandbagging the doors and leaving tomorrow with his
CPU in tow and a few valuables. Terry considers the
rest just material things that can be replaced. He
knows that there are so many people that are so much
worse off than he is--and that people count most. And
he has no idea when his school will be reopened. Parts
of Interstate 10 across Lake Pontchartrain (spelling?)
are missing.

Pictures of all of the results of Katina can be
searched on Flickr <www.flickr.com> using the tag
"hurricanekatrina" and one blog is at
<http://katrina05.blogspot.com/> Terry will have
access to a computer at his sister's so we will hear
more from him soon, but he wanted those who have been
trying to contact him to know that he is well but
ready to get out of a crumbling, flooded city.
