I put my equipment into the Circulation System, but do not put it into
the collection that is searchable by patrons. It is not searched when
patrons search so it does not slow the OPAC down. It makes more sense to
me to use one program for multiple collections than to use multiple
programs. I there for can use the same barcodes, computers, scanners,
etc. I even check the equipment out to teachers using the equipment
collection and the barcodes I normally use for the teachers to check out
library materials. More bang for the buck!!!! I have done it this way
for over 7 years and have never had any problems.
