Andre and all, I agree with your assertion that some points in this article were not going to force school administrators to go out hire a slew of librarians to replace the ones they fired. However it may force them to think about why the Internet doesn't provide all the answers that students need. Many of us work in places where we have to fight to get funds for online databases and reference resources. Our pleas are met with the comments of how everything the students need is available for free online. I've heard of new high schools that are being built with smaller reference collections in favor of computer stations. This article was written by a Stanford scholar who taught a course on "Information Quality" at Berkeley. He dealt with bright people who grew up with the Internet . His assertion is that if these students had difficulty evaluating online information, many other students are going to the "traps" online unless they are instructed to evaluate their Google hits. He also stated that most of them "ignored other resources that the libraries have access to..." Jo ********************************************* Josephine G.
