As I read the results of the survey to date, 87% of respondents are in
favor of not banning it. I can't believe this continues to be an issue in
our society! How do these same parents explain the situation in Africa or
Saddam? Or any military atrocities and natural disasters? We need to
teach our children to be critical thinkers and to imagine a world without
personal freedoms so we can better value what we do have, not shelter them
from things we might find uncomfortable. Certainly I think age
appropriateness needs to be considered and I respect the right of parents
to monitor their childs' reading but I cannot condone wholesale banning.
Best wishes! Lisa
