I know a terrific story for telling, but it's not a picture book.  It's "Hic!
Hic! Hic!" by Margaret Read MacDonald in _Twenty Tellable Tales_.  It's a
participation story and kids love it.

Little Loon and Papa


Some of the Anansi stories follow that pattern of home-adventure-home.
Anansi and the Talking Melon is an example.
