If they are really old and outdated, I throw them away. Sometimes I put them
on a cart in the teacher's lounge and let them pick, but I make sure the
barcode and spine labels are marked out. That way they don't end up back on
my shelf. At a previous school, you wouldn't believe how many discards I
found on the shelf when we moved our collection into a new building. They
had all been "given away" to teachers previously. I've also taken good
condition books to a bookstore that gives trade credit. I can use that to
purchase any of their used merchandise.
