For my library media certification I was required to do a practicum of 250
hours. If you are already working in a library (which I fortunately was) the
hours required were only 125. So in my case it was very useful to have a
media job before I was done with my degree. I also found it useful for much
of the course work as you could create assignments directly from real life.
Many of the classmates I encountered in my program were already working in
libraries and it was much easier that way. Also that allowed for asking
specific questions of the course instructors--questions that were directly
pertinent to my situation.

Education is not a goal; it is a life-long process. Everyone is a student.
Everyone is a teacher.

We are having a debate next week on various topics concerning
media specialists. My group has been asked to discuss the pros and cons of
obtaining a media specialists job without being a certified media
specialists I just wanted to get everyone's opinions on the topic so I can
discuss it more
knowledgably in the debate.
