Had a lot of time to read on the planes to and from the Hawaii trip and then
stopped at school and found boxes of new books- just like Christmas, had to open
them and then had to read them. In addition to Sledding Hill which Ada mentioned
here are some good reads, I think.

Empty Mirror- James Lincoln Collier suitable for all ages- A lot like DeClement's
"Thnigs Not Seen"- boy looks in mirror but doesn't see himself but this is in a
historical setting and has a little ghost twist to the plot.

Prom- Laurie Halse Anderson- much lighter than her other books. YA
Pictures in the Dark - McCord Kids who like the Child Called It books should like
this novel. MS_HS

24 Girls in 7 Days- Bradley-- Looking for a more lightheart approach to dating?
Jack Grammer is a shy sensitive young man without a prom date so his friends put a
want ad in the school paper. It's up to Jack to decide from the finalists.( He is
completely inept with conversations with girls-example running partner asks what he
is thinking about- he says "Watership Down" when girl replies she's never read it,
he admits he hasn't either but he was thinking about it)

House on the Gulf- Margaret Peterson Haddix Family moves in to house sit but there
are some strange secret in the house. An unexpected ending. MS-HS

i am the messenger Mark Zusak. Aussie story ( The Messenger) Ed is a underachiever
with no ambitions until he start receiving mysterious playing cards which lead him
to help ( or hurt) others. Great message here about what each small individual can
accomplish HS, Adult

More adult/ high school

Hard Truth Nevada Barr An Anna Pigeon mystery involving kidnapped little girls
sort of struck a cord with the Groene case in the news. Riveting but somewhat
disturbing.

Monday Mourning Kathy Reichs bones are found in a pizza basement and it is up to
forensics anthropologist Temperance Brennan to help find the man who put them there.

And my favorites

Maisie Dobbs and sequel Birds of a Feather by Jacqueline Winspear. Set in London
shortly after WWI , these are the stories of Maisie Dobbs a female private
detective. She is intelligent and has worked here way up from being a maid to
having her own detective agency. Not just interested in finding out who the crook
is, she attempt to set things right in the end for all parties involved. Good
cerebral mysteries with a lot of interesting historical information about the times
and the women who lived them. ( If you enjoy Jeanne Dams Hilda Johansson books you
will also like these. Definitely suitable for high school readers who enjoy this
type of fiction.
