Hi folks - I have been getting a bit confused over the terminology "works cited" and "bibliography" as it applies to what students attach to the end of the research papers/projects. I had thought that a works cited list had to have all the materials that were either parenthetically cited or noted in the paper and nothing more. To this end, you could go through the list and say "okay, you used this one here and this one here and so on". I thought a bibliography was a bit more general and included those and anything that was consulted although not "cited" in the text or body of the project. But are the terms interchangeable or are they different? Are there schools that use separate works cited and works consulted lists? Does anyone know the difference and can you explain it to me? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!
