Peter,

I started reading and thinking about the ETS IT testing and thought that it
would give us a good framework to evaluate student learning and faculty
competency. I have shared copies with my staff and we plan to spend a day
looking at it and several other new things which have come out, for example
the Council on Library and Information Resources, "Library as Place:
Rethinking roles, rethinking space" and the Educause book.

Perhaps we could have a virtual discussion.

> "ETS defines ICT literacy proficiency as the ability to use digital
> technology, communication tools and/or networks appropriately to
> solve information problems in order to function in an information
> society. This includes the ability to use technology as a tool to
> research, organize, evaluate, and communicate information, and the

>
> "To simulate real-life situations in which a person might need to

> The ETS ITC "domains" to be tested are shown as follows:
>
> Access - knowing about and knowing how to collect and/or retrieve
> information.
> Manage - applying an existing organizational or classification scheme.
> Integrate - interpreting and representing information. It involves
> summarizing, comparing and contrasting.
> Evaluate - making judgments about the quality, relevance,
> usefulness, or efficiency of information. Create - generating
> information by adapting, applying, designing, inventing, or
> authoring information.
