Dear Colleagues of LM_NET,

This news just in-- from the ISTE Update newsletter (many LM_NET folks
participated in this important survey, I think!)

Results from School Library Media Specialists Survey to be Presented at
NECC

Media specialists nationwide are playing an active role in cultivating
21st-century learners. Findings from a recent survey conducted by School
Library Journal and ISTE's SIGMS indicate 95% of school library media
specialists train students to use technology resources to locate
information; 80% lead technology staff development initiatives; and 60%
collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate information and
technology (NETS standards) literacies.

School library media specialists are involved not only in instructing
students on how to become more discerning users of technology resources,
but they also play an essential role in the school districts planning and
purchasing of these resources. Findings of this study and their
implications for schools will be presented at NECC 2005. For additional
information, contact SIGMS officer Sally Brewer at
Sally.Brewer@mso.umt.edu.
