In our district, if you miss your prep period covering a class you are paid, and they pro-rate based on half hour increments. This was likely negotiated. Librarians are penciled in as if, when they cover, at least in my building. Basically the attitude is that if the district isn't going to raise the sub pay to compete with surrounding districts, we'll make them pay in other ways. The principal, really the designee, requests people that wish to cover, volunteer and they will be summoned first. This is done before school starts. My trust has gone up, knowing that they do not come to me first. It really bugs me when I know people are off having a grand time, and staff left behind are struggling just to manage their kids. Harold Howe, former U.S. Commissioner of Education -----Original Message----- From: School Library Media & Network Communications [mailto:LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU] On Behalf Of Stephanie Powell Sent: Thursday, November 03, 2005 5:59 AM To: LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU Subject: [LM_NET] GEN: Being pulled from library to sub- need advice I assume that getting pulled from the library to sub for a class must happen- but this is the first time that it has happened to me and I am quite perturbed by it. For one thing- I am worried that this will become something that will happen with more frequency if I do not speak up about it now. How do you deal with it? Is it just "part of the job"? I am going to have to close the library for two periods when I usually have about 10-15 students down from study hall. Of course I will comply, but I would like to find a diplomatic way to express my displeasure to my principal. Any suggestions? Stephanie E.
