Hello everyone,

This is my first time posting, so I hope I am doing this
correctly. My school just went from K-5 to K-8 and I have a
fixed schedule with all the students, including our new middle
schoolers. I am having problems coming up with lessons for the
7th and particularly 8th graders. I've searched the archives,
but most of the lessons suggested there require computers and I
don't have a set-up that allows me to put the kids on computers
or even to show them a lesson on one computer. We don't have
money to update our collection with young adult books, so doing
booktalks is difficult and the students aren't interested in time
to browse and check books out. We have 50 minute library periods
and I feel I have to fill the period with a stuctured lesson, but
cannot find any materials to guide me with unit or lesson ideas
that don't use a computer or computer lab. I've tried study
hall/research time when they've had a project due, but that
quickly degenerates into a free-for-all and I'm at my wit's end.
If anyone has suggestions to help me, I would appreciate it!

Thanks very much,
Rebecca Gorek
