I am a bit concerned that no one seems to be advocating for the
students of the private school to have their own library and librarian.
We on LM NET understand that the library is more than the available
books, that the collection has been developed with the understanding of
supporting the school's curriculum and in partnership with the classroom
teachers. Those private school students deserve their own Teacher/
Librarian and library.
I have had a second grade class from another school show up on our
doorstep to use our library and had to turn them away, the next year
they did hire their own librarian. We do interlibrary loan, I do
professional development for district and city-wide and am willing to
help whenever possible. In two weeks I am going to book talk to student
assembly at a school that is librarian-less My hope is that the
teachers and perhaps administrators that are present realize what they
are missing on a daily basis and take action.
