This is my 12th year in the school system but my 1st year as a librarian. I really want to collaborate with teachers to maximize the students library time. I am on a fixed schedule. I have the teacher's class when they have planning. This makes it very difficult to collaborate. Our school breaks down the objectives to be taught by nine week periods. I have a copy of these objectives. I try to correlate my library lesson with one or more of the objectives. For example, one of the 1st grade science objectives for this nine weeks is on the five senses. I have a series of books about the five senses. I will read these to them. I will also teach them a finger play about the five senses. Also, I collaborate with the teachers via email to get suggestions on what to order. This year I am letting the teachers select the videos I will order. I set up some guidelines and emailed them to the teachers. This evidently never happened before because many teachers have thanked me for asking for their input. I have much to learn about collaboration and I am enjoying reading the posts about this topic.
