Original question Please let me know how you are handling the citations for Google Images. I am under the opinion that we must obtain permission to use an image from the image holder. What means do we use to do that? One of my teachers thinks it is good enough to just list the url of the image as listed on Google in a bibliography. Please advise me. I put together a summary of the responses I received. Google is just the search engine. We need to go to the original website and cite the picture from the info at the actual website. Google provides a web address, and sometimes these do not work or it is hard to locate the image. Depending on whether that site is a personal site, a database, or a government or organization site, there will be some differences in what information that you will need to use for the citation. If you are using the pictures for a school project, something that stays in the school, ie. paper, power point etc, just citing is enough. If you put them on a Web page or put them out to the public in any way, like showing a Power Point made in school outside the building, you must get permission. You should list the URL next to the image in whatever project, paper or actvity you are doing. You also include it in your bibiliography. http://www.2learn.ca/copyright/images.html Information on the citation of images and how to get permission. Hope this helps everyone!
