The issue of digital camera instruction is just one of several instructional
technologies that I think librarians are now being asked to "teach" not only to
students but also to teachers. This technology (as well as others) are, in my
opinion, the avenues in which librarians SHOULD be moving toward learning more
about in order to assume the role of instructional team-member.

While there are situations where the librarian is not a part of the technology
team, I believe the more we understand the technologies that are out there--and
that can be utilized effectively in the classroom--the more likely we will be asked
to become involved in the process of selecting and supervising the technologies
used in the library (and the classroom).

I realize that there are many librarians out there doing some outstanding things
with technology (running circles around the rest of us); however, I also believe
that in order to remain current and not "out-dated" as the library media
specialist, we must investigate and learn more about how to utilize and implement
technology within our libraries---and become leaders in the instruction of these
technologies to our teachers and their students.

Today it's more than "just books, databases and circulation systems"....we have to
leave our comfort zones and use / teach technology in order to retain / gain
leadership within our schools. So if digital cameras or powerpoint isn't your
strength, make it a goal this year to learn how to use it effectively and promote
the use of it in the classroom with your teachers.

Just a thought.....
