" I think the thing that bothers me even more than the shelving issue is the fact that library staff are labeling the books with the "dots" that indicate a reading level on the outside of the book. What about privacy issues? Do we want a fifth grader walking around with a book that clearly shows everyone he is reading at only a second grade level? " Our students only have to have one AR book checked out on their level. The other books they check out can be anything. Some check out lower level books to share with siblings or book buddies, others check out books that interest them but that aren't on their level. Some of the lower level kids check out the lower level books to read for AR but then will go for a big fat one to carry around. Therefore, it's not clear what level a book each child is checking out for AR, for pleasure, to share or to dream about.
