Here's the hit from my request for a series of president biographies for younger elementary students. Thank you to all who responded. I happen to like the compass point series. They are attractive and straightforward. I have used them with 4th graders. I called the company and they sent me a sample copy before I bought the entire series. I just want to add that I am working on Presidents and political library resources with the second grade this week. I am using the book First Ladies by Amy Pastan, published by DK. The students really love it because of the big, bright photographs. It does not contain a large chunk of information. Rather, information is given to them in little bits and pieces, which works well with their attention spans at that age. I recommend it! I love the ABDO set--the information is just what you need and is in an easy to read form. I just purchased (and you'll probably find it in the archives) First Biographies from Abdo. They are good for grades 1-3. Also would recommend Venezia's set of Getting to Know the US Presidents from Children's Press for grades 3-5. Brenna, we have the Checkerboard series and both teachers and students like them. The teachers especially like the way the information is organized, and the fact that each volume includes a timeline.
