I agree that Booklist, School Library Journal, Kirkus, and VOYA are excellent
sources for reviews. Another source I frequently use is presentations at
conferences. There are several people at my NJ conference that I try not to miss.
Sharing one-on-one with collegues is also important.

While I realize the comments I make here concerning books are not formal book
reviews, I feel they are honest and from the heart. Most the books I comment on
are ones that I have selected and purchased for my library. If someone gives me a
book for free and asks me to read it for a review here, I always mention that in my
comments. One publisher wrote me once, annoyed that I mentioned that I was given a
book I reviewed. I prefer not to get free books from publishers or authors simply
because I don't want that to influence what I write. I meet authors at conferences
and they sometimes offer me a free book and I generally say no but will purchase
it. Knowing several authors now from socializing with them at conferences it is
hard to separate my feelings for them from a book they have written but I make an
effort to do so..

Above all, the most important thing is not to use more than one source for
reviews or comments on books.
