At our children's room in the public library, we used different
colored dots and wrote the number in order for books in series. For
series with lots of titles, it really worked well--for both location
purposes and for shelving. Readers could tell at a glance which book
was next in a series and we actually had much fewer misshelvings.
THe dots had to be covered with a strip of tape, otherwise they came
off.
