Iowa teacher librarians have cause for celebration today! Teacher librarians are now back in the Iowa Code, so that means at minimum each school district will need one certified teacher librarian in their district. While I know that it won't ensure that libraries will be adequately staffed, it is a start. Currently in my service area, we have three school districts that do not have a certified teacher librarian. Those school libraries are being totally manned by paraprofessionals. The trend has been not to rehire certified teacher librarians when they leave a district or retire. Now, at least, we can reverse that trend. -- Pam Buysman Educational Media Consultant AEA 4 Sioux Center, Iowa 51250 pbuysman@aea4.k12.ia.us 712-722-4378/1-800-572-5073 -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
