Regardless of whether the book or the publisher is quality, his point still rings true. Are there 50 valid scientifically based research studies to point to the validity of school library media programs in student learning? Heck, no. I would bet there aren't even 50 school library media researchers, even if one would go back a few years. If we are really stringent, and only count research that is conducted under scientific conditions using random samples and published in peer-reviewed education journals so that institutes like this one can find them, I doubt we would find more than a handful. I would be ecstatic to find more than one or two. We can't blame outside forces for not coming into the house and finding us hiding under the bed. We need more school librarians seeking doctorates so that the positions that exist in school library preparation can be filled, but also so that we can conduct the studies we need to in order to influence the educational world.
