Hi -

Several years ago New York SLMS did create a program
for presentation outlining what we did and how we can
help teachers, admins, students, readers of all ages.
There was a computer part and a display board. It
could be adapted for the type of audience.

I used it for several college teacher education
classes. I knew the instructor well enough to invite
myself to be a guest speaker for one class session. It
was well received by the students with comments
ranging from "Wow!" to "I didn't know school
librarians did stuff like that!" My firend moved on
and I lost my contact.

Several of us also set up a booth at the state Middle
School conference one year. The most memorable comment
from that was "not at my school!".

When I think about how primitive the program was I am
amazed at how well it worked. Think about how good it
could be now.

One way to get beyond "preaching to the choir" is to
tell teachers and admins who are active in their
respective organizations that you are available for
conference presentations or info booths. These groups
are always looking for programs.
