This is a good point, but the reality in many districts, particularly poorer districts, is that there are plenty of households without computers. I can certainly pull up articles and pictures for my young students on the computer and even make printouts for them, but that's not the same as getting to take American Girl or BMX+ magazine home with them to read. We try to keep a couple years' worth of back copies, but most of our magazines just keep circulating until they're in tatters--so space for storage is less of an issue. With the new age of technology and access to all of the online databases, is there really any need to keep magazines that date back five, ten, or even twenty years? I am trying to prioritize the needs of the library, especially with one with little space, and I don't really see the need to keep them all. I would appreciate any input.
