Fellow netters: My family and I are planning a trip to England in July as the fulfillment of a lifelong dream and to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. My husband has already secured two weeks of vacation in mid July but we haven't made reservations yet (yes, we know we need to do that SOON!) Just today, however, it occurred to me that our trip will fall very close to the release of Deathly Hallows and by tweaking our dates we could be in London for THE day. My first thought: "How cool!" My second thought: "Wait - is that such a good idea? Will the mid-summer throngs be even worse because of this event? Is this something we want to be a part of or something we want to avoid? Am I crazy?" (This second thought was powerfully influenced by the knowledge that while my daughter and I are BIG fans of the books, my husband and son have never been interested and they will be scornful of the whole idea). Were any of you in England for the release of Half-Blood Prince? Can you share what you think of my idea, pros and cons? What and where were the related events? Any advice you can provide will be greatly appreciated (as will any advice about travel in England generally, as I have never been). Please reply to me off list. Thanks in advance!
