We are currently using "shelf markers" (made of construction paper then laminated with the student's name and ID barcode on them) as the students' Library ID cards. I have a set for each grade level (color coded, etc.) and for each day of the week. (Which makes an interesting rainbow of colors on a bookshelf near the check-out desk...) However, many of them are becoming worn, bent, twisted, etc. I like the shelf-marker idea for the younger students but once the students reach the 4-6 grades, the markers often become "swords" resulting inan impromptu joust among the older boys during their library time. Is anyone using something better for library cards? (We don't issue student IDs...and we haven't used the plastic library cards. I'm just looking for options for the older kids.) I'll post a HIT, if others are interested.
