Greetings:

I would like to find out if any district or building (K-12) has the policy or
practice of adding an allotment to the library budget when a new textbook is
adopted, or a new class developed.

Also, how is the amount of the allotment determined?

Long story short.

As a member of the District Curriculum Committee, I looked at a detailed course
outline for a new class at the High School, and noticed that approx. 35-40% of the
material was "new." I did not have adequate resources, print or non-print, to
support the new class. I made the statement that an additional "certain
percentage" of the budget allocated towards the new textbooks should be given to
the Library to purchase support materials.

This shocked everyone in the room (wry grin.)

I'm meeting with my Assistant Superintendent next week to discuss this issue. Now
I have to find out if anyone else is doing this, and how the additional funds are
calculated. I'm recommending a guideline of 10-15% of the textbook cost be added
for support materials.

If there is enough interest, I'll post a HIT.

Thanks,
