Hi Linda,

My advice has always been to buy the same computer your most knowledgeable
computer-using friend has. That way you have a good source for support and
answers to questions. I've used both platforms and both seem to have virtues
and problems. 

My main reason for sticking with a Mac (and it may not be a valid one
anymore) is that they are less virus and spyware prone.
