I don't want to start another discourse about this...But I tend to agree
with my colleague, Mr. Fourie. Though it sounds extreme ( I agree it is
not life and death) --- But by being toooooo flexible we also do a
disservice to our patrons. We are the only profession that I know that
are very accommodating ( and I am and it is very admirable) but come on,
I see myself on the very same level as a doctor or a LAWYER...they would
not have been in their professions if it was not for the library and
librarians... They depended on the library and its resources to fulfill
their careers and studies ! If we follow this trend of nonchalance
about our proffession , we are dying a slow (or fast ?) death. Don't let
us shoot ourselves in the foot.
My 2 cents!

Just a little bit extreme, don't you think? We aren't the same as
doctors and lawyers. As hard as it is to admit, our issues are not
anywhere near as vital. It's difficult to decide where to draw the line
between flexibility and consistency. However, if we are too rigid, or
make our materials too hard to access out of respect for Mr. Dewey, we
have done a disservice to our patrons.
