If you haven't purchased a book from Amazon recently, you may (or may not) have noticed the new option of the "Online Reader." This is basically an e-book for those who have purchased a book. The option is available to them instantly while they wait for their book to arrive. This was particularly interesting to me tonight. I purchased a text that I wanted to use immediately, but noticed that the copy would be delayed by 4-6 weeks (out-of-stock). Frustrated, I decided to go ahead with the Free Shipping option, since I would have to wait...but before leaving the site, I was offered the ONLINE READER option for $8. Yes...I saved $6 in shipping but spent $8 for the ability to read the book that won't arrive at my home until the end of July. Does it help...depends on what you might need or want. I wanted the book and since I can now access it anytime I log in to my account with Amazon, I have it to use (print) and make notations in while I'm waiting for my physical copy. I'll let you know if it's really worth the price later...but for now, it's wonderful!! I have exactly what I need in front of me and I don't have to wait. (Now I know how my students feel when they find that I have the latest book in their favorite series!) Thought I'd share. ~Shonda -- Shonda Brisco, MLIS Library Media / Technology Specialist Digital Bookends wiki / blog: http://digitalbookends.pbwiki.com http://shonda.edublogs.org/ sbrisco@gmail.com "Digital Resources" columnist School Library Journal -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
