LM_NET Archive

I was asked to post this by a friend who no longer has access to LM_NET due
to filters at her school. FYI -

Here's the information about the Legacy Project's new Begin and End With a
Dream f.r.e.e online activity set for schools. The Legacy Project is a
national education initiative with the nonprofit Parenting Coalition and
Generations United in Washington, DC. The activity set can be used to mark
the end-of-school-year milestone, for teacher professional development over
the summer, and for ideas to start the new school year.

The Begin and End With a Dream activity set includes positive, meaningful
activities for students. Looking back gives young people a chance to reflect
on the school year and what they've learned. Looking forward helps them
begin to explore who they are and what their goals are. Helping children and
teens find direction is one of the most important gifts a librarian, teacher
or parent can give.

The new online activity set includes a Star Highlights sheet for making a
Top 10 List of the best memories and things a student has learned over the
school year, a Dream Reading List for setting summer reading goals, ideas on
how to make a Life List, inspiration for creating The Next Page in your life
story, a My Dream sheet for sharing personal goals, a Ladder to the Stars
sheet for identifying the steps to reaching a goal, a Dreamer Profile to
find out what kind of Dreamer you are, and Wishing Wands and Celebrate
Certificates for ending the school year in style.

Librarians and teachers can also share the award-winning bestseller "Dream:
A Tale of Wonder, Wisdom & Wishes" by author and educator Susan Bosak, and
discuss students' highlights from the school year and dreams and goals for
their future. Many schools use "Dream" as part of graduation ceremonies
(it's a 10-minute, inspirational read), as a school-wide theme for the year,
and for teacher professional development (it's motivating and a rich,
cross-curricular literacy resource).

"Dream" is illustrated by 15 top children's illustrators, including two-time
Caldecott Medal winners Leo and Diane Dillon.

The book has won 11 national awards, including an International Reading
Association Children's Choice (10,000 students read and vote on the books
they like best), a Teachers' Choice, an iParenting Award, and the Pinnacle
Award for Best Gift Book.

Says The Bloomsbury Review, "This elegant book depicts the journey of life
-- from infancy to older adulthood -- highlighting all the hopes and dreams
found along the way...

Inspirational quotes from people such as Martin Luther King Jr, Sir Edmund
Hillary, and Emily Dickinson are set alongside gorgeous illustrations by
internationally acclaimed artists.

Richly crafted and thoughtfully written, 'Dream' is a dazzling project that
challenges us to find a dream and follow it."

"Dream" is currently being featured on the graduation gift display in the
children's section of bookstores like Barnes & Noble, Borders, and
Books-A-Million. We have a special bonus offer available until June 17,
www.legacyproject.org/books/specialdr.html. Sales of the "Dream"

book help support the Legacy Project's educational programs.
