As elementary students come into the library and I teach them how to use this, I
will often explain the DDS and how it works.
I do try and tell all the students that it is my job to teach them how to use the
library and that once they know how to do this they can walk into any other school
library or public library and be able to find books. I tell them that their online
database may look a little different or they may have to look around to find where
the section they are seeking is located, but they have the know how.

If people are changing this, then I cannot say that anymore. I like that I can
tell kids this and I like that it gives them the power to prove me right. I have
had students use the public or other school libraries (locally, they all pretty
much look identical) and they have been proud to say they could find the book. In
many cases, these kids are showing their parents how to find stuff.

I would be disappointed if I could not give the students the power of similarity.

Just my opinion,
