Thank you to everyone who sent suggestions! You've given me a lot of good titles to look for and share with my teachers: * A series of non-fiction books from Rourke Publishing entitled America at War. The books in the series include: Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korean Conflict, Vietnam & American Under Attack (dealing with 9/11). They are A.R. readers - with levels of 4.5 and above. I've been pleased with them - and the students keep them in circulation. The copyright date is 2003, so they are basically current. * Someone else suggested using www.mackin.com to search by subject - she found several hundred fiction and non-fiction titles for both topics. Individual titles: * In Flanders Fields: The Story of the Poem by John McCrae...a picture book format non-fiction account of how the poem came to be written; * The Christmas Truce by Michael Foreman * Don't You Know There's a War on by Avi * Voices at Whisper Bend (American Girl History Mysteries) by Kathryn Ayres * Number the Stars by Lois Lowry A couple of others shared attached titles lists that ran to several pages; I'm happy to share those if you're interested in more.
