Hello!

I am considering creating a "mature readers shelf" in my HS library because I
have run into a couple of problems with parents and my principal this year over
content and language in books. I don't really want to create this separate area
but it is better than pulling the books altogether. (Personally I am so
anti-censorship and pro First Amendment that I am about to get in trouble at work.)

The few books on the shelf would be limited for checkout to 11th and 12th
graders only with possible exceptions.

Does anyone do this? How well does it work? What problems do you have?

The books that I have had trouble with this year are "Vegan Virgin Valentine"
(language),
"Inside the mind of Gideon Rayburn" (language) and "Freak Show" (language,
blasphemy and homophobia).

This is the first year in four that I have had trouble.

I will post a hit if requested.

  Tricia
