I'm a college professor, not a librarian, so admittedly I'm not on the front lines - but I'd like to weigh in against this practice. When I was young, many many moons ago, I read well ahead of my grade level, and even though my local/school librarians were aware of it, it still created hassles when I wanted to check out something that was too far ahead of where they thought someone my age should be. Few children in my experience regularly attempt to read things that are genuinely too advanced for them, so I would say forego the stickers and let the kids check whatever they want out; if the book appeals to a sixth grader, that sixth grader is probably ready for it. > > > > > I'm wondering if any of you use advanced reader stickers on books for > 8th grade students only?
