PBS has a section for "Library Media and Tech Coordinators" under PBS
Teacher - here's the copyright and fair use info:

They've also got some great educational resources related to The War!

Subject: [LM_NET] GEN: copyright and dvr taping of PBS programs

When doing my "fair use" presentation at this morning's staff meeting, one
of the teachers had an interesting question: Is he within fair use
guidelines in terms of personally taping segments (or possibly the entire
program) of Ken Burn's new documentary (WAR) for viewing by students in
conjunction with relevant social studies lessons?

I've looked in my Copyright for Schools text and in the archives, and the
only reference I can find is 10 years old.

The one relevant hit I could find (from 1997) does make it sound like this
is OK (this is the link to the actual archived post
http://www.eduref.org/plweb-cgi/fastweb?getdoc+listservs+LM_NET-1997+11826+0
+wAAA+copyright%26pbs). To paraphrase, the rep from PBS who provided the
information says this use is permissable for up to one year from the
origianl air date and then the program must be purchased if it is available,
however I couldn't find more up-to-date information on the PBS website,
although the series is already available for sale.

What do I tell him?

Thanks,
Sheri
