I had this fabulous compliment from a 5th grade teacher last week...

"I've been thinking about going into library studies for my masters. I even
gathered all the info about the program in Norman, but I don't know if I could ever
handle all that you do. It just seems too much."

I felt a wonderful glow because it seems that she "gets me." We have worked
together often when she taught Kindergarten and now in 5th grade. I supported her
heartily and I do hope she will go into this field. She would make a good LMS. I
count my blessings that I have more fans than foes on my current staff.

As we all know National Library Week is next week and I have a week's
worth of fun activities planned, like Pin the Glasses on the Librarian,
a game day, etc. As I was sitting in my office during my planning
period I heard one teacher say to another teacher AND our
vice-principle... "They might as well just CLOSE the library!" and
laugh. Meanwhile, this is also a teacher who refuses to use the library
at ALL.

I'm really, really tired of those around me who seem to have some weird
impression of what libraries are or "should" be. I just wanted to tell
her to mind her own beeswax!
