I too didn't think I'd really have anything to say for this thread but I
found out today about something that happened at yesterday's faculty
meeting. The music teacher and I weren't there, so I'm wondering if that
was why this was brought up. The two 5th grade teachers were saying that
since we "special" teachers only see the students one day a week, our
grades shouldn't count as much. One of the teacher's is someone I have
worked with and collaborated with for several years! I guess I don't
teach anything of value so why should I bother with grades at all? That
would certainly make my life easier and they wouldn't have to worry
about the weight of my little grade at all. Fortunately, my principal
values what we "special" teachers do. She defended us and told the staff
all grades are equal.

"I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive
element in the classroom. It's my personal approach that creates the
climate. It's my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I
possess tremendous power to make a child's life miserable or joyous. I
can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration. I can
humiliate or humor, hurt or heal."
