An excellent Latino novel is Jesse by Gary Soto. There are several high-quality Asian novels: China Boy by Gus Lee (there might be a bit of strong language--it's been some years since I read it), Shadow of the Dragon by Sherry Garland (Vietnamese Americans), and Finding My Voice by Marie G. Lee (Korean American--with a female main character, but the issues of parental expectations and ethnic conflicts make it a good choice).
