Join the American Library Association (ALA) for their second annual TechSource Gaming, Learning, and Libraries Symposium (GLLS 2008) to explore the exciting world of gaming at your library! GLLS 2008 will take place from November 2 through November 4, 2008. Registration is now open for 350 guests and filling up fast! The event sold out early in 2007 and looks as if it will do the same this year. Registration closes on October 28, and costs $300 for ALA members, TechSource subscribers (Library Technology Reports or Smart Libraries Newsletter), and students. The nonmember registration rate is $350. The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) is co-sponsoring, in name-only, this fantastic learning event, and will have members of both the ALSC Children & Technology Committee and the ALSC Great Interactive Software Committee presenting sessions. Keynotes will feature: * Andrew Bub, GamerDad <http://www.gamingwithchildren.com/> * Dr. Lawrence Kutner, author of Grand Theft Childhood <http://www.grandtheftchildhood.com/GTC/Home.html> * Marc Prensky, author of Don't Bother Me Mom, I'm Learning <http://marcprensky.com/writing/> The symposium will run from 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, through 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4 at the Doubletree located in Oak Brook, Illinois. Registration includes entry to all sessions of the event and breakout rooms; open gaming night with snacks (Sunday, November 2); continental breakfast Monday morning (November 3); lunch Monday afternoon; snacks and coffee on Monday; continental breakfast Tuesday morning (November 4); one copy of Jenny Levine's April 2008 issue of Library Technology Reports, Gaming in Libraries Update: Broadening the Intersections; wireless internet in the hotel meeting rooms and guest room if you are staying on the premises; parking; and all the fun, gaming, and learning you can handle!
